Making a handmade, natural DIY soap bar makes such a thoughtful and wonderful gift. They are truly so easy to make using this recipe. The gift of handmade soap makes for a great idea for a birthday gift, Mother’s Day, Christmas, teacher appreciation days, as well as other special occasions.
Natural Ingredients
Goat’s milk melt-and-pour soap base will give you incredible results. Goat milk soap is a gentle cleanser with good vitamin A (anti-aging properties) and other minerals for healthy skin. Goats milk melt-and-pour soap is also good for all skin types and can help increase the skin’s moisture.
Organic coconut oil is good for the skin as it smoothes the skin while providing a natural layer of protection between the skin and anything else. Although it doesn’t provide a lot of moisture, coconut oil has antibacterial and locking-in moisture properties.
Alternatively, you can also use sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil as a replacement for the organic coconut oil in this recipe.

Raw honey is such a great natural ingredient to use in your natural bath care and skincare recipes. Using aw honey is a great way to add a light layer of moisture while helping with deep pore cleansing, dark spots, reducing the appearance of fine lines, and evening and brightening skin tone.
Essential oils add such heavenly scents to your homemade bar soap. The possibilities are endless when it comes to which essential oils to use for your bar of soap. Some of my favorite essential oil blends are included after the recipe so you can choose the blend you enjoy!

Handmade Goat Milk Soap Recipe
When making any melt-and-pour soap recipe, you are going to need to work quickly once it’s melted. I highly recommend getting out all of your supplies and ingredients in the recipe first. I like working in small batches, but you can double the recipe as they really make the perfect gift!
Step one:
Chop up 1 pound of your goat’s milk melt and pour the soap base into similar size pieces, about 1-2 inches in size. This will make it easier to melt and stir the soap.

Step two:
Place the pieces of melt and pour soap into a double boiler on your stovetop. Heat the water to a gentle boil, using the wooden spoon to stir the soap pieces after they melt.
If you don’t have a double boiler, then you can do what I did and use a large saucepan with water halfway up the side while placing a 4-cup glass measuring cup inside. The measuring cup works well, making pouring into the molds much easier.

Step three:
Continue stirring the soap until smooth and no pieces are left. Once that happens, remove the double boiler or glass measuring cup from the stovetop and dry off the bottom. They will be hot, so make sure to have towels and pot holders nearby. Turn off the stove.
Step four:
Then add the 5 teaspoons of coconut oil and 5 teaspoons of raw honey to the melted soap base, making sure to stir very well. Next, add the 80-100 drops of the essential oil blend you selected directly to the mixture and stir again (see below for recommendations).
Last pour the soap into your soap molds. I find that this soap recipe makes around 4-5 bars of soap, depending on the molds you use.

Step five:
Leave the soap in the molds for several hours or overnight. The soap is usually ready after a few hours, but it’s best to leave it overnight to be sure it has hardened all the way through. Peel the molds back slowly and gently, so the handmade soap bars come out clean and beautiful.

How to Store & Wrap Your Soap Bar Gifting
First, you are going to need to wrap your handmade soap even if you are not ready to gift quite yet. The homemade soap will start to dry out if left unwrapped and exposed to the air for too long. The best options include plastic wrap, coffee filters, and parchment paper to wrap DIY natural soap. You can also use tissue paper, scrapbooking paper, and wrapping paper!
What you select is going to depend on where you live as well as the humidity level. In that case, the less air between your soap and your wrapping choice the better! Lots of people will choose plastic wrap to keep the humidity out of their soaps, especially in the summer.
Then you can go ahead and gift wrap the soap bar once it’s wrapped in plastic wrap. You can then make a pretty gift wrapping and use can even use a homemade gift tag to make them a truly thoughtful gift!
