Making homemade dog valentine’s day treats is such a great way to show your doggy best friend some extra love. This is a simple yogurt-based recipe with a peanut butter surprise that all dogs will go crazy for. These valentine’s day dog treats are going to make your furry valentine have such a special day!
Plus, they taste amazing (at least my dog thinks so), are made with simple ingredients, and are super easy to make.
Simple Ingredients
Strawberries are great for dogs since they are full of fiber and vitamin c. The best part is that they contain an enzyme that naturally help whiten your dogs teeth when they eat them. Plus they are lower in calorie and naturally red, making them a great addition to these homemade dog treats.
Unsweetened Applesauce is another good ingredient that is also low in calories. Applesauce is easier to digest that apples and gentle on a dog’s stomach. It’s best to buy the unsweetened applesauce to avoid added sugar.
Plain Greek Yogurt is an excellent treat for our furry friends since it contains probiotics and is gentler on their stomachs compared to traditional yogurt. Using greek yogurt also adds additional protein. Just make sure to grab the container without any added sugar or artificial sweeteners.
Peanut Butter is the perfect way to add some healthy fats that dogs need inside these sweet treats. We are using a small amount in these DIY dog treats, but it’s most dog’s favorite part of this treat. Another great option is using different nut butters such as almond butter or cashew butter if you have those on hand.
Supplies Needed
Making your own homemade dog treats is a great way to give your pet a simple treat! With this simple recipe, you will want to get all the supplies and ingredients right away since it will come together quickly. You can use any shape of silicone mold or ice cube tray, but I love using a heart-shaped silicone mold for this special occasion.
My dog tends to wander into the kitchen any time I am cooking, and she often knows when I am making her a delicious treat. And these strawberry yogurt heart-shaped dog treats filled with peanut butter are no exception!
- 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt (unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
- blender or food processor
- spoons
- silicone mold or ice cube tray
Homemade Dog Treats Recipe
Step one: Add 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt (unsweetened) to your blender or food processor. Next, add 1/2 cup strawberries and 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce to the blender.
Step two: Blend the mixture for 30 seconds or until you get the right consistency, smooth, pourable, and no visible pieces of strawberry. If you are using frozen strawberries, the blending may take longer and could be thicker. You can add additional unsweetened applesauce if needed to thin it out.
Step three: Add a small dollop of peanut butter to the middle of your silicone mold or ice cube tray sections. Then pour the strawberry yogurt mixture over the top.
Step four: Place the filled silicone mold or ice cube tray into your freezer for 2-4 hours or until the mixture has frozen and peanut butter has set.
Step five: Pop out the heart-shaped strawberry yogurt treats. Depending on the mold you are using, you should be able to pop them out by pressing on the back of the mold with your thumbs. If that doesn’t work, you may need to run warm-to-hot water over the back to loosen the treats.
Note: If the peanut butter sticks to the mold, then that means they aren’t completely frozen and need to go back into the freezer for additional time.
Step six: Feed the treats to your canine companion valentine and enjoy!
This recipe made 14 heart-shaped dog treats using my small ice cube tray with hearts roughly 1.5”x1.5”. Plus I also ended up having some leftovers to fill up our licking mats too!

Storing Your Homemade Treats
These strawberry yogurt homemade valentine’s day dog treats should be stored in the freezer in a sealed container or freezer bag. They can be easily pulled out one (or three) at a time when needed. When stored in the freezer, they should last 2-3 months if they even last that long!
Depending on the size of your dog and the treats, you could easily give them 1-3 treats a day. But trust me, they won’t last long in your house if my dog is any indication of how good they taste.
