These homemade yogurt dog treats are refreshing and delicious making them perfect for hot summer days to beat the summer heat! But they are so tasty your furry friend will want you to make them year-round!
This is a simple recipe with healthy ingredients including greek yogurt, banana, blueberries, peanut butter, and coconut oil. It’s basically like making a smoothie and then freezing the mixture in silicone molds for a tasty, special treat.
Natural Ingredients
Greek Yogurt is an excellent treat for our furry friends since it contains probiotics and is gentler on their stomachs compared to traditional plain yogurt. Using greek yogurt also adds additional protein. Just make sure to grab the container without any added sugar or artificial sweeteners.
Banana is a great addition to thickening the homemade treats while adding fiber, potassium, and magnesium.

Blueberries are the only ingredient that contains antioxidants, which are great for people and dogs. They also are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and vitamin K, all of which your pet needs. Plus they make these healthy dog treats extra tasty!
Peanut Butter is the perfect way to add some healthy fats that dogs need inside these sweet treats. We are using a small amount of natural peanut butter in these DIY dog treats, but it’s most dog’s favorite part of this treat. Another great option is using different nut butters such as almond butter or cashew butter if you have those on hand.
Coconut Oil helps to add some moisture and fat to the recipe. It also is great in small amounts for digestion, brain and mental function, and helps with weight loss.
Supplies Needed
Making your own homemade frozen yogurt dog treats is a great way to give your pet a tasty treat! You will want to get all the supplies and ingredients in order for the recipe to go smoothly. You can use any shape of silicone mold or ice cube tray to make these frozen treats, but keep in mind the size of your dog when selecting.
Of course, my own dog comes into the kitchen any time I am cooking, and she senses when I am making her a treat. And these homemade dog treats are just perfect for a hot day!

- 1/4 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe
Step one: Add 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt (unsweetened) to your blender or food processor. Next, add 1/4 cup of blueberries, 1/4 cup of banana slices, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, and 1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil to the blender.

Step two: Blend the mixture for 30 seconds or until you get the right consistency, smooth, pourable, and no visible pieces of fruit. If you are using frozen blueberries or bananas, the blending may take longer and could be thicker. You can add some more greek yogurt or a splash of water to thin it out.

Step three: Pour the blended yogurt mixture into your silicone mold or ice cube tray sections.
Step four: Place the filled silicone mold or ice cube tray into your freezer for 2-4 hours or until the mixture has frozen has set.

Step five: Pop out the blueberry banana yogurt treats. Depending on the mold you are using, you should be able to pop them out by pressing on the back of the mold with your thumbs. If that doesn’t work, you may need to run warm-to-hot water over the back to loosen the treats.
Note: If the treats stick to the mold or break apart, then that means they aren’t completely frozen and need to go back into the freezer for additional time.
Step six: Feed the treats to your canine companion and enjoy!
This recipe made 14 heart-shaped dog treats using my small ice cube tray with hearts roughly 1.5”x1.5”. Plus I also ended up having some leftovers to fill up our licking mats too!

Storing DIY Dog Treats
These homemade yogurt dog treats should be stored in the freezer in a sealed container or freezer bag. They can be easily pulled out one (or three) at a time when needed during the hot summer months or any time of the year. When stored in the freezer, they should last 2-3 months if they even last that long!

Depending on the size of your dog and the treats, you could give a small dog 1-2 treats and a large dog 2-4 treats per day. However, they probably won’t last very long in your house because your dog is going to gobble them up!
