Natural Ingredients
Epsom salts are going to be the base of your simple foot soak. They are loaded with magnesium sulfate, which can help ease sore muscles, reduce stress, and create a calming effect for better sleep. When buying epsom salts, always make sure to buy them unscented! This way your foot soak is not full of synthetic fragrances and you can add your own pure essential oils to give them an amazing scent.
Pink himalayan salts are one of the main ingredients in this soothing foot soak recipe! They are filled with over 80 trace minerals that the body needs, while also helping with the body’s detoxification process. Plus, pink himalayan salts can mixed with other ingredients like magnesium flakes, epsom salts, bentonite clay, and baking soda.

Fractionated coconut oil is a simple carrier oil that helps enhance this recipe. Not only is it moisturizing for the skin, but it also adds a light scent while helping to distribute the essential oils throughout the bath salts. And yes, you can also use other carrier oils like jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, or even olive oil.
Essential oils add an amazing scent to any natural bath care recipe! The possibilities are truly unlimited when it comes to which essential oils to use for your own epsom salt soak. Some of my favorite essential oils and essential oil blends are included throughout this blog post so you can choose the one(s) you enjoy!
DIY Foot Soak Recipe
STEP ONE: Add 1 cup of epsom salt and 1/2 cup pink himalayan salt to a glass bowl and mix.
STEP TWO: Second, add 2 tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil and between 20-30 drops of essential oils. Some of my favorites are stress away, orange, peppermint, and lavender essential oil. Mix the salts, fractionated coconut oil, and essential oils with a spoon to combine well.
See different essential oil blends after the recipe. Also please note, if you are making this recipe for kids I would recommend using half the amount of essential oils (10-15 drops) instead.
STEP THREE: Lastly, spoon the DIY epsom salt foot soak into a glass mason jar to store for later use. They have a shelf life of 6-8 weeks in these jars. I always try to avoid using plastic containers when using essential oils, as the oils are so concentrated they can break down most plastics. Also, it is best to store the bath salts at room temperature or cooler.

How to Use Homemade Foot Soak
To use your homemade foot soak epsom salts, simply add 1/2 cup to hot water to a bathtub or foot basin, as warm water might not dissolve the salts. Stirring the epsom salts can help them to dissolve entirely in the water before soaking your feet.
This recipe can be used for a foot soak in a bathtub (in shallow water) or using a smaller tub, container, or foot spa. It is recommended to soak feet for at least 15 minutes to gain the benefits, but you can let them keep soaking for 20-30 minutes.
If you want to take your foot soak to the next level, then I would highly recommend using a pumice stone on the bottoms of your feet afterward. It’s a great natural way to remove dead skin cells and smooth the bottoms of your feet in the comfort of your own home.
Then apply a nice foot cream, lavender lotion, or lotion bar to your dry feet, to lock in that moisture and soothe your feet. The bottoms of your feet are going to thank you every time you do this and even more if you do it on a regular basis! I know mine do!

Homemade Foot Soak – Easy, DIY Gifts
This epsom salt DIY recipe makes such an easy gift for so many people in your life! My favorite times for gifting are Birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, wedding showers, and teacher appreciation gifts. Not to mention, a homemade gift is such a simple way to show them that you care and appreciate them. Plus, they are so fun to give to family and friends who love a good bath, foot soak, or just need some extra self-care.
This recipe can be made a few weeks ahead of time, which really helps the essential oils really meld together. Then you can easily add a few simple touches to make this homemade gift extra special.
When gifting these homemade salts, you can use more decorative glass jars and tie a pretty ribbon or string around the jars for a simple and festive look. This is where you definitely make this part your own, depending on the time of year and who you are giving them to! Layering bath salts like a candy cane is an easy way to make them more festive for a Christmas gift!
