10 Benefits of Using Mango Butter
Mango butter which comes from mango seeds, is a rich and nourishing ingredient that offers several benefits for skincare. Here are some of the main benefits of mango butter:
- Deep Moisturization: Mango butter is known for its emollient properties, helping to moisturize and hydrate the skin deeply. It can be particularly beneficial for individuals with dry or sensitive skin.
- Rich in Antioxidants: Mango butter contains antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, which can help protect the skin from free radicals. Antioxidants contribute to maintaining youthful and healthy-looking skin.
- Soothing and Healing: The butter has anti-inflammatory properties that may help soothe irritated or inflamed skin. It can be useful for conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or sunburn.
- Collagen Production: Mango butter is believed to promote collagen production. Collagen is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness, contributing to a more youthful appearance.
- Scar Reduction: The presence of vitamin A in mango butter may aid in reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks over time. Regular application can potentially improve the skin’s texture.
- UV Protection: While not a substitute for sunscreen, mango butter contains a small amount of natural sun protection. It can offer a small amount of additional defense against the sun’s harmful UV rays.
- Non-Pore Clogging: Mango butter is less likely to clog pores. This makes it suitable for a variety of skin types, including those with acne-prone skin.
- Natural Source of Fatty Acids: Mango butter contains essential fatty acids, such as oleic acid and stearic acid, which can contribute to maintaining your skin’s protective barrier, as well as enhancing its overall health.
- Improved Skin Tone: Regular use of mango butter may help even out skin tone and promote a smooth complexion due to its moisturizing and nourishing properties.
- Versatility in Formulations: Mango butter is often used in many skincare products, including creams, lotions, balms, and soaps. It blends well with other ingredients, making it a versatile addition to skincare products.
Of course, when you first start using mango butter in your natural skincare routine, it’s important to ensure that you are not allergic to it. The best way to check is to perform a small patch test before using it everywhere. Additionally, your body’s reaction to skincare products can vary, so it’s a good idea to monitor your skin for any adverse reactions.
Natural Ingredients
Organic Mango Butter
Mango butter is a great moisturizer with a high concentration of essential fatty acids and vitamin A and vitamin E, similar to unrefined shea butter. These vitamins are what make it an antioxidant, which helps with premature aging and fine lines. It’s known to be great for dry skin, sensitive skin, and itchy skin, but all skin types can use it for its moisturizing properties. This is the main ingredient in this recipe and the perfect addition to your skin care routine.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is amazing for moisturizing the skin, making it a great addition to this homemade lotion recipe. Plus jojoba oil is full of essential vitamins and minerals including vitamins E and B that the skin needs.
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is naturally rich in vitamins A, and E plus has antioxidant properties, while also soothing and nourishing the skin. Not to mention, this light oil perfectly balances out the heavier mango butter for the perfect combination and texture in this recipe.
Arrowroot Powder
Arrowroot powder is a great way to minimize any greasiness from this body butter lotion.
Essential Oils
Essential oils add to diy skincare products. Not only do they add a wonderful scent, but they can also help with various skin conditions and skin types. I listed my favorite essential oil scent combinations below. In this mango body butter recipe, I like using grapefruit, cypress, and orange essential oils.

Whipped Mango Body Butter Lotion Recipe
Let’s get to making this whipped mango body butter. As with most of my homemade skincare products, this is a simple recipe but does require some planning ahead since there is some waiting time.
STEP ONE: Measure out 1/2 cup of mango butter and cut it into smaller pieces. This will make it easier to melt and stir. Then add the mango butter, 1/4 cup of sweet almond oil, and 1/4 of jojoba oil into a double boiler on your stovetop.
For mine, I used a large saucepan with water halfway and a 2-cup glass measuring cup to make pouring easier. Heat water to a gentle boil, whisking or stiffing until they start to melt together.
STEP TWO: Continue whisking the mixture until smooth and no pieces are left. Once that happens, remove the measuring cup from the stovetop and dry off the bottom. The measuring cup will be hot, so make sure to have towels and pot holders nearby. Turn off the stove.
STEP THREE: Pour mixture into a glass bowl. This allows the mixture to cool more quickly. Since mango butter tends to have a grainy texture, I recommend putting the bowl into the freezer for 30 minutes up to 2 hours. Alternatively, you can also leave the mixture to cool at room temperature.
STEP FOUR: Remove the mixture from the freezer and bring it back to room temperature. This may vary based on your home temperature, but we are looking for the mixture to be solid but not frozen. It took about 30 minutes for me at my house. Alternatively, if you have the mixture just barely frozen you may only need to wait a few minutes.
STEP FIVE: Using a hand mixer or immersion blender, beat the mixture for 1-2 minutes until nice and fluffy. Scrap the sides of the bowl and beat again for 20 seconds. Then add the 2 teaspoons of arrowroot powder and 30-40 drops of essential oils (see below for scent combinations) to the fluffy mixture. Slowly start to blend the mixture again. Once they are mixed well, beat again for 1-2 minutes until fluffy.
My personal recipe uses 15 drops of grapefruit, 15 drops of orange, and 10 drops of cypress essential oil.
This lotion should have a fluffy and creamy consistency. Make sure not to overmix as this could result in a different texture.
STEP SIX: Finally, store your finished body butter lotion in a small glass jar in an airtight container or glass container.

How to Use and Store Whipped Mango Body Lotion
To use the whipped mango body lotion, apply a small amount (as a little can go a long way) to your fingertips and gently rub it into your skin. You can use this as your daily moisturizer, after bathing, or anytime your skin is dry.
Storing your homemade lotion in a glass container with a tight-fitting lid is the best way to store it properly. Also, the glass will keep the moisturizer from absorbing anything from other materials. Plus, using glass containers when using essential oils in your recipes is always a good idea. Store in a cool place in an area of your home, making sure to avoid direct sunlight or warm places. The moisturizer has a long shelf life of around 6-12 months after making it. I love using these smaller glass mason jars for several DIY skincare recipes!
