Your furry friend is going to love these cute homemade Halloween dog treats with pumpkin and cinnamon for the perfect seasonal treat! They are a great way for all pet parents to make their dog feel a little extra love during spooky season.
This is such a fun and healthy recipe with lots of fall flavors that is safe for your little pumpkin to enjoy! It might just become a new Halloween tradition.
Natural Ingredients
Oat Flour is the base of these homemade dog treats. You can buy oat flour from the grocery store, but I like to make my own using old-fashioned oats. The easiest way to make oat flour is to add oats to a blender or food processor and pulse until you get a flour-type consistency. For this easy recipe, it’s not needed to get the finest flour, and perfectly fine to have larger pieces.
Pumpkin Puree is such a great ingredient for your dog. It contains vitamin A (great for eyes, skin, and coat), vitamin C (immunity), and beta-carotene for eyes. Pumpkin is great for digestion and is known to be a stomach soother. Plus it’s also low in calories, making it great for our furry friends to enjoy a few extra-tasty treats! Just make sure to avoid buying pumpkin pie filling since it contains sugar that your pet does not need.
Natural peanut butter is perfect for combining all the ingredients and containing the healthy fats that dogs need. We are using a small amount in these dog biscuits, but it’s most dog’s favorite part of this treat. You can also substitute different nut butters such as almond butter or cashew butter if you have those on hand.
Coconut oil helps add some moisture and fat to the recipe. It also is great in small amounts for digestion, brain, and mental function, and helps with weight loss.
Supplies Needed for Homemade Treats
It’s a good idea to get out all your healthy ingredients and other supplies right away. Of this means that your four-legged friend can enjoy these yummy treats even sooner! And if your dog is anything like mine, they will be right next to you in the kitchen waiting to see what you are making for them.

Homemade Pumpkin Dog Treats Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step one: If making your own oat flour, then add 1 1/4 cups of old-fashioned oats to your blender or food processor. Pulse several times to get the mixture started. Then you can blend for 10-20 seconds until you get the texture you like. There is no need to get the perfect flour consistency, as a little texture is really nice in the dough. If you are using already-made oat flour, then only use 1 cup instead. Make sure to reserve one to two tablespoons of oat flour for rolling out the dough so it doesn’t stick.
Step two: Mix the 1/2 cup of pumpkin, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and 1 tablespoon of creamy peanut butter into a medium bowl. I like to melt the coconut oil and peanut butter for easier stirring. Then add 1 cup of oat flour (less 1-2 tablespoons reserved) and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir until a slightly wet dough forms. It should not be sticky, or dry for that matter. If you have sticky dough, then you will want to add some more oat flour. If your dough is dry, add more pumpkin or peanut butter.
Step three: Sprinkle the cutting board or work surface with reserved oat flour. Roll out dough with a rolling pin or press down until 1/4” inch thickness all around. Using a small pumpkin cookie cutter, cut out your dog treats. Of course, you can also purchase a dog bone cookie cutter, use other spooky shapes, or cut them into small squares!
Place the dog treats on your baking tray leaving a little room between each one.
Quick tip: I find using a spatula helpful to move the cookie from the work surface to the baking tray.
Step four: Bake treats in your preheated oven (350 degrees F) for 14-16 minutes. The bake time may vary based on your oven, the size of the treats, and the thickness of the treats. You will know when they are ready to take out when the edges start to turn golden brown and they slide on your baking sheet. For a crunchier cookie, leave them in the oven for an extra 3-4 minutes. I leave them on the baking tray to cool completely, but you can also move them to a wire rack.
This awesome recipe made 48 homemade Halloween treats using my cute pumpkin cookie cutters between 1-2 inches.

Storing your Homemade Pumpkin Treats
It’s best to store your homemade Halloween dog treats in an airtight container and place them on the counter. If you store them at room temperature, they will last around 14-21 days sitting on the counter.
If you like your homemade treats on the softer side, then you can place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for longer storage. Then the treats will last about a month or so storing them this way.
The good news is that you can also freeze these yummy Halloween treats if your dog won’t be able to eat them all in time! I have had success freezing them in freezer-safe plastic bag or glass container for up to 2 months without any issues. When ready to use the treats again, just take them out of the freezer and place them on the counter to thaw out. They will taste just as good in November for Thanksgiving!
