This honey face wash diy recipe is unbelievably good. The recipe uses simple, good-quality skincare ingredients including raw honey, and comes together in minutes. With all the amazing honey benefits for your skin, you are going to keep this in your natural skincare routine for years to come!
honey beneficial properties
Using raw honey, raw manuka honey, or local honey has many beneficial properties for the skin. From clearing up acne to anti-aging to evening skin tone, honey can help with all of them. It seems that most people can benefit greatly from adding a little honey to their beauty routine.
- evening & brightening skin tone
- moisturizing
- anti-inflammatory properties
- deep pore cleanser
- clear skin
- dark spots
- antimicrobial properties
- reduce the appearance of fine lines
Honey is highly unlikely to cause any issues for most people. Please keep in mind that if you are allergic to bees or honey, then you may want to test this recipe on a patch of skin before using it.
homemade face wash with natural ingredients
Making a diy face wash using raw honey is easy with these four natural ingredients. When possible, I like using only a few really good, high-quality ingredients. With this honey facial cleanser recipe, you really don’t need any more than that! As a bonus, this natural face wash recipe doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals.
raw organic honey
Using raw organic honey or manuka honey will provide the most benefits to the skin. Raw organic honey and manuka honey have not been processed, which means they have higher amounts of antifungals, antibacterial properties, and antioxidant properties. All of this means overall really good things we want for our skin. I like buying raw organic honey in larger volumes to save money. Plus you don’t have to worry about it going bad, since honey doesn’t have an expiration date.
organic jojoba oil
Jojoba is one of my favorite carrier oils when making homemade products since it’s so perfect for moisturizing the skin. It’s full of essential vitamins and minerals including vitamins E and B that the skin needs. Jojoba oil not only moisturizes, but it also doesn’t clog pores and soothes dry skin or sensitive skin.
A great alternative for jojoba oil in this honey face wash recipe is going to be sweet almond oil. It is naturally rich in vitamins A, and E plus has antioxidant properties, while also soothing and nourishing the skin. You could also use avocado oil or olive oil if you have those on hand.
liquid castile soap
Castile soap is a great simple ingredient soap base for lots of diy’s with essential oils. When using liquid castile soap, you need a smaller amount since it’s highly concentrated. For this honey cleanser (and several other recipes), I like using the unscented castile soap so you get to customize the scent.
essential oils
I love making recipes with essential oils since they really add to any diy recipe and make it so easy to customize to your personal tastes. Depending on your skin type, there are different essential oil recommendations for the skin. See them below. My favorite essential oils to use in this honey face wash are orange, peppermint, and lavender essential oil!
essential oils for different skin types
dry skin
- cedarwood essential oil
- royal hawaiian sandalwood essential oil
- myrrh essential oil
- jasmine essential oil
oily skin
- tea tree essential oil
- geranium essential oil
- juniper berry essential oil
- ylang-ylang essential oil
sensitive skin
- lavender essential oil
- frankincense essential oil
- rose essential oil
- copaiba essential oil
acne-prone skin
- tea tree essential oil
- lavender essential oil
- grapefruit essential oil
- lemon essential oil
mature skin
- lavender essential oil
- rose essential oil
- frankincense essential oil
- sandalwood essential oil
Depending on your skin type, you may mix and match different essential oils to find your unique blend. Other that are refreshing for the skin are peppermint, orange, rosemary, tangerine, bergamot, and lemon essential oils.
Please keep in mind that citrus oils may cause photosensitivity when out in the sun. If using, I recommend applying the honey face wash at night or when you will be out of the sun.
making a honey face wash
This face wash recipe comes together really easily! Gather all of your supplies and ingredients so we can get started. You will need the following items:
- 1/3 cup raw organic honey
- 1/3 cup organic jojoba oil
- 1/3 cup liquid castile soap
- 30 drops of essential oils
- glass hand soap bottle
- small funnel
- measuring cup
Pour the 1/3 cup liquid castile soap, 1/3 cup jojoba oil and 1/3 cup honey into the glass hand soap bottle. You can use a small funnel to help make this part easier. Also, I recommend adding the honey last as the liquid castile soap and jojoba oil make it easier to pour the honey from the measuring cup. If you are using a clear glass hand soap bottle, then you should be able to see the individual layers.
Add 30 drops of your choice of essential oils (see above for suggestions). For my recipe, I like using 10 drops of peppermint, 10 drops of lavender and 10 drops of orange essential oils.
Screw on the pump of the hand soap bottle. Make sure it is tight and then shake the honey cleanser mixture. You will need to shake or turn the bottle for around a minute or until it is well combined. Make sure to shake again before each use.

how to wash your face with honey
This honey face wash is not sticky! You are going to wash your face the same way you would normally, with one exception. Make sure to shake the face wash before every use.
Then go ahead and wet your face with warm water, using one pump of the diy honey cleanser. Gently rub all over your face in a circular motion, allowing the soap to foam. For an even deeper cleanse, you can use a facial cleansing brush with the face wash. Make sure to rinse well.
Lastly, pat your face dry with a towel and apply a light moisturizer or face serum right away. I like to use this facial cleanser in the shower and store it there for easy access!
how often can you use a honey cleanser?
A honey cleanser is a gentle cleanser that you can use as your everyday face wash and is good for all skin types. In this recipe, we are using natural ingredients that are so good for your face even for those with sensitive skin, dry skin, oily skin, or acne-prone skin. The raw honey, jojoba oil, and essential oils balance out the liquid castile soap so your skin won’t dry out your delicate facial skin.
Plus, raw honey has many beneficial properties for the skin, such as brightening, evening skin tone, clearing acne, and anti-aging. I am sure you will want to use honey to wash your face all the time!
how long will my homemade honey face wash last?
This homemade honey face wash will last 3-4 months, as long as you are storing it in a sealed container. We aren’t adding any preservatives to this recipe, however, raw honey doesn’t expire and jojoba oil can last for 2 years. Castile soap lasts for several years as well. Once you mix all the ingredients, it does bring the shelf life down considerably. Just keep an eye on your face wash for any signs of mold, slimy texture, or an unpleasant smell.
