  • double boiler or saucepan
  • whisk or wooden spoon
  • small container

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Measure out 1 tablespoon of shea butter, 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of beeswax into a small glass bowl.
  • You can either use a double boiler or use a microwave to melt the mixture.  When using the microwave, heat for 30-second increments until melted, making sure to stir the mixture in between.
  • Once the mixture is melted, remove it from the double boiler or microwave and let cool for a few minutes.  Then add 1 teaspoon of beetroot powder (or the natural colorant of your choice).  Mix well.
For my recipe, I added 3/4 teaspoon of beetroot powder and 1/4 teaspoon of eyeshadow powder.
  • If you are concerned about the homemade blush cream coming out too intense, then you can add in half the amount of colorant initially.  Let the mixture cool and test it on the back of your hand or on your cheek.  Of course, if you like the color you're all set!  If not, then re-melt the mixture slightly in the microwave for 20 seconds and add in the remaining colorant, stirring well again.
  • Pour the homemade blush into your empty container and allow it to cool completely before covering.

Notes

  • Beetroot powder is a common natural colorant in homemade recipes.  This is going to be great for dark pinks, reds, and blending to make berry shades.
  • Hibiscus powder is a beautiful medium pink shade, and also great for berry shades.
  • Cocoa powder is going great for neutrals and golden tones, or added to make darker shades when mixing different colors.
  • Eyeshadow powder can be used instead of other natural, food-based powders.  The benefit of using this is that you already know the shade and just need to add enough to get the desired color.
