skin benefits of a sweet almond bentonite clay face mask
Let’s just say that after researching, making, and using this combination of sweet almond with bentonite clay in a face mask, I regret NOT having this recipe in my life. After coming up with this exact recipe for the first time, I was completely hooked on using these ingredients because of all the benefits they offered.
deep pore cleansing: the bentonite clay works by removing excess oil in your pores and unclogging them. this causes your skin to tighten and appear to have smaller pores.
skin detoxification: while the clay is unclogging your pores, it is also absorbing other things like dirt, impurities, and toxins from your skin.
reduce fine lines: bentonite clay is working to rebuild and heal your skin, making it great for reducing fine lines and adding collagen back into aging skin.
soothes acne-prone skin: a clay face mask is great for oily, acne-prone skin to calm and soothe any breakouts. it may help be helpful to reduce certain types of acne as it is removing the excess oil in your pores.
soft and smooth skin: bentonite clay is a like sponge, absorbing the impurities and reviving the skin with its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. this may be one of the favorite benefits of this face mask, as my skin has never been so soft, smooth, and even-toned!
If you have any acne scars, then check out my other face mask recipe Bentonite Clay Face Mask for Repairing Acne Scars! It uses witch hazel and rosehip oil, both are amazing for acne and skin healing and care.
natural ingredients
Sweet almond oil is so great for your skin since it’s naturally rich in vitamins A and E and antioxidants, plus it soothes and nourishes the skin. In this recipe, the sweet almond oil adds a light layer of moisture to the face mask.
Bentonite clay is the base of the face mask and gives us that deep pore cleanse while providing so many natural benefits to the skin, leaving your skin relaxed and reinvigorated. This is the bentonite clay I like buying from amazon.
Apple cider vinegar is known for soothing skin infections or irritations since it has antimicrobial properties. Other reasons to use ACV for the skin are blemishes, evening skin tone and naturally tightening the skin. Mixed with bentonite clay, it’s an amazing combination.
Essential oils are a great way to enhance your skin based on your skin type. My recommendations based on your skin type are below the recipe. Personally, I really enjoy using either lavender, peppermint, orange, or frankincense essential oils in this homemade face mask recipe.
Water is added to this face mask, as using only apple cider vinegar was a bit strong. Adding half ACV and half water made this a perfectly balanced recipe.

instructions for using your homemade clay face mask
After making your homemade face mask, you will want to apply it to a clean, dry face. Spread the face mask evenly all over your face in a 1/8″ to 1/4″ inch layer. This will ensure the clay face mask dries at roughly the same amount of time in different spots on your face.
If this is the first time using a bentonite clay face mask or if you have sensitive skin, then leave the face mask on for 5 to 10 minutes. If you have used a bentonite clay face mask before or have a normal skin type, then you can leave the face mask on for 10-20 minutes maximum. The clay face mask may cause redness on the skin, so it is better to start with less time when first starting out.
There are a few easy ways to tell when the face is ready to wash off. The face mask has completely dried. You start feeling a pulling or tingling sensation on your face. Your face starts to feel warm. Or the time limit has gone by.
If you are ready to remove the almond bentonite clay face mask, simply wash the face mask off with warm water. Using a washcloth can also help to remove the face mask. Pat face dry.
Putting on a moisturizer is great after using this face mask to rehydrate your skin. Select a moisturizer with gentle, clean ingredients so you don’t disrupt your skin’s healing. My personal favorites are using sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or my homemade face serum.
Just a side note, it is completely normal for your face to be slightly reddened for up to 30 minutes later. This often happens to my sensitive skin type even when I leave the clay face mask on for 10 minutes.
how often can you use a bentonite clay face mask
The beauty of the sweet almond bentonite clay face mask is that using it 1-2 times per week will bring you amazing results. This will bring you all the benefits of deep pore cleansing, skin detoxification, reducing fine lines, soothing acne-prone skin, and smoothing your skin. Using this face mask too often may cause skin irritation, redness, tenderness, or dryness.
how to store your diy face mask
Using a glass container for your almond bentonite clay face mask is the best way to properly store it. Also, it will keep the face mask from absorbing anything from other materials. Plus, it’s always a good idea to use glass containers when using essential oils in your recipes. Store in a cool, dry area of your home and use within 1-2 weeks of making the diy face mask. I love using these smaller glass mason jars when doubling or tripling the recipe to save for the weeks ahead.
other uses for the sweet almond bentonite clay
There are a few other uses for the sweet almond bentonite clay mixture. You can this combination on other areas of your skin that could use extra repair and healing.
