Coffee soap has so many amazing benefits for the skin including smoother, healthier skin while reducing the appearance of cellulite. This vanilla honey coffee bar soap recipe is the perfect way to enhance your soap-making to the next level. The best part is that it’s easy, simple, and perfect for use in your natural skin care routine.
Benefits of Coffee Soap
Anti-Aging
Ground coffee contains antioxidants, which are beyond amazing for the body as they are a defense against free radicals. The antioxidants help restore the skin’s surface and repair old skin cells. All of this said coffee can help with things like fine lines, redness, skin tone, and dark spots.
Smoother Skin
Natural exfoliants like fresh coffee grounds are great for removing dead skin cells. Once you have washed away that dry skin, the appearance of the skin is going to start to brighten. With this will come smooth skin and overall healthy skin.
Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite
Regular use of caffeine on the skin can help with the appearance of cellulite, the accumulation of excess fat cells in one place. Since coffee has caffeine, it helps minimize the number of fat cells staying together. Of course, if you use your coffee soap regularly, then the appearance of cellulite can be reduced.
Natural Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Coffee contains anti-inflammatory properties due to it being rich in polyphenols, which reduce oxidative stress. All of this being said, it’s another amazing benefit to using coffee soap on your skin to slow down aging and have your skin look great!
Natural Ingredients
Shea Butter Melt and Pour Soap Base
Using a shea butter melt and pour soap base is going to give you incredible results. Shea butter soap is known for being one of the best moisturizers. It’s also a really good soap base to use no matter your skin type with the added benefit that it doesn’t clog pores. Plus, it has high levels of vitamins A and E along with antioxidant properties which help to protect skin cells from free radicals that can cause premature aging and other skin problems.
A great alternative for shea butter melt and pour soap base is goat milk melt and pour soap base. It’s good for dry skin since it’s higher in fatty acids and can help increase the skin’s moisture.
Raw Organic Honey
Raw organic honey is such a great natural ingredient to use in your natural skincare routine. In this recipe, the raw honey adds a light layer of moisture to the coffee bar soap and also helps to evenly distribute the coffee powder in the melt and pour soap.
You could also use sweet almond oil or jojoba oil, as they are both great in homemade soaps and are so nourishing for your skin.
Coffee Powder
Using a coffee powder is going to be a great way to add in all those numerous benefits for the skin. You can use ground coffee beans, espresso powder, or find your own coffee beans into a powder-like consistency. It is recommended that you use fresh grounds if possible, as they have higher levels of antioxidants, and caffeine and the texture is better for exfoliation.
If you are going to grind your own beans, then make sure to use a good blender or mortar and pestle until you get the coffee grinds to the desired texture. Using a coarser coffee powder will result in gentle exfoliation compared to a finer coffee powder.
Vanilla Essential Oil
Essential oils are a great way to enhance your skin based on your skin type. This recipe calls for vanilla essential oil, as it pairs so well with the coffee powder and honey scents. Other essential oils you could use in this melt-and-pour soap recipe are lavender, peppermint, or orange essential oils.

Vanilla Honey Coffee Soap Recipe Guide
STEP ONE: Chop up 1 pound of your melt and pour soap base into similar size pieces, about 1-2 inches in size. This will make it easier to melt and stir the soap.
STEP TWO: Place the pieces of melt and pour soap into a double boiler on your stovetop. For mine, I used a large saucepan with water halfway and a 4-cup glass measuring cup to make pouring into the molds easier. Heat water to a gentle boil, stirring the soap pieces after they start to melt.
STEP THREE: While the soap is melting, in a small glass bowl, add 3 teaspoons of coffee powder and 4 teaspoons of raw organic honey. Mix until it forms a thick paste. Making a paste helps to evenly distribute the coffee and honey in your soap.
STEP FOUR: Continue stirring the soap until smooth and no pieces are left. Once that happens, remove the measuring cup from the stovetop and dry off the bottom. The measuring cup will be hot, so make sure to have towels and pot holders nearby. Turn off the stove.
STEP FIVE: Add the coffee powder and raw honey paste to the melted soap base, making sure to stir very well. Next, add the 30-50 drops of essential oils directly to the mixture and stir again. I always start with the smaller amounts, and then add more if needed.
Mix the ingredients well, as this is your only chance for them to combine. Then pour into your soap molds of choice. I find that this makes around 5 bars of soap, depending on the exact molds you use.
STEP SIX: Leave the soap in the molds for several hours or overnight. I find the soap is usually ready after a few hours, but I like to leave it overnight to be sure it has hardened. Peel the molds back slowly and gently, so the soap comes out clean and beautiful.
STEP SEVEN: If you aren’t going to use your melt-and-pour homemade soap right away, then you will need to wrap your soap so it stays in good condition for your future use. I like using parchment paper to wrap the vanilla honey coffee bar soap, but you can also use plastic wrap, coffee filters, tissue paper, scrapbooking paper, and wrapping paper.

How to use your Coffee Soap in your Skincare routine
Using your homemade coffee soap will become a staple in your skincare routine. Personally, I like keeping my handmade soaps in the shower and storing it there for easy access using a bar soap saver. It’s one of those recipes that you can use as a body wash or even as a face wash.
The coffee soap bar is gentle enough to use as your everyday body soap. Simply use it with your washcloth or silicone scrub brush. If you use the coffee soap bar on your face, make a light moisturizer or face serum right away after drying.
Which skin types benefit from using coffee soap?
All skin types can benefit from using coffee soap. Coffee grounds are an excellent exfoliant. After using them, you may notice smoother skin and your overall skin health. If you have either dry skin or sensitive skin, the ingredients are minimal and moisturizing perfect for both skin types. Coffee soap is also great for mature skin since it has anti-aging properties, and may reduce the appearance of cellulite and dark spots.
Is this Coffee Soap Bar recipe for beginners?
Yes, absolutely! Melt-and-pour soap is perfect for beginners. There are limited ingredients that you need to buy, while the directions are short and to the point. It really is as easy as it sounds, melt the soap, add ingredients, and pour it into soap molds. Just make sure you have all of the supplies and ingredients before you start making the recipe!
TWO THINGS TO AVOID WHEN MAKING BAR SOAP
While you can reheat the melt and pour soap, be careful of doing this too many times. It may ruin the texture of the soap after the third or fourth time. Also, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to natural skin enhancers and natural exfoliators. If you add too much to your melt-and-pour bar soap, then it may not harden completely. This will cause problems with the soap coming out of the molds, as well as when you start using it.
